I dreamed of a temple that I was building
With a chryselephantine statue as the altar
Its features were adorned with a mischievous pout
Like Praxiteles, I patiently chiseled it.

Then I found myself in a laurel grove
In Palestine, a holy and pure anchorite
Composing verses of love, letters of gold
Seeking for emotion and purity.

From the Levantine rocks, I observed the statue
I saw it frozen between yesterday and tomorrow
I asked it: « Do you see what I am building? »
The statue moved its lips: « Yes, you dream in the morning. »
